A Milestone for Gothenburg’s Climate Transition

Project: Biofuel-fired steam boiler

Project category: Buildings

Client: Veidekke

Year: 2024

In 2020, Göteborg Energi decided to raise its climate ambitions, aiming for all district heating to be based on renewable and recycled sources by the end of 2025 (Göteborg Energi, 2023). The most significant initiative was the construction of a new biofuel-fired steam boiler, to be built adjacent to the Rya CHP Plant in the Rya area, Gothenburg.

Inhouse Tech’s Building department was entrusted with the design of all in-situ cast concrete and foundations for the project. The project includes the approximately 50-meter-high steam boiler, which will proudly contribute to Gothenburg’s evolving skyline. Just north of the boiler is the external fuel handling area, primarily constructed using in-situ cast concrete. The project has involved managing large volumes of data and information, combined with a high design pace and complex foundation work.
